Assessment process.

  1. 1 Identify the correct TRA assessment pathway for your situation (offshore skills assessment, onshore skills assessment, or Job Ready Program).
  2. 2 Gather your trade qualifications and evidence of at least 3 years post-qualification work experience.
  3. 3 Prepare detailed employment references describing your trade duties.
  4. 4 Submit your application through the TRA portal with all supporting documents.
  5. 5 TRA may request a technical interview or practical assessment for some trades.
  6. 6 Receive your assessment outcome.

Required documents.

  • Certified copies of trade qualifications (Certificate III or equivalent)
  • Evidence of at least 3 years post-qualification work experience
  • Detailed employment references describing trade duties and skills
  • Passport bio page
  • Photographs of your work (for some trades)

Tips.

  • Your trade qualification must be equivalent to at least the Australian Certificate III level. If your qualification is lower, you may need to complete a gap training program in Australia.
  • Employment references for trades must be very specific about the tasks you performed. List specific tools, techniques, and materials you work with.
  • The Job Ready Program (JRP) is for recent international graduates of Australian trade courses. It involves workplace assessments over 12 months.
