How SkillSelect works

SkillSelect is the Australian government’s online system for managing skilled migration. You submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) declaring your occupation, points score, and visa preferences.

The invitation process

  1. You submit your EOI with your points claim
  2. The department runs regular invitation rounds
  3. EOIs are ranked by points score (highest first)
  4. Within the same score, earlier lodgement dates are prioritised
  5. Invitations are issued until the round quota is filled

What scores are being invited?

Scores vary by occupation. Use the points calculator to check where you stand. Read more about how many points you really need.

Frequently asked questions.

Answers to commonly asked questions about our platform

  • How often do invitation rounds happen?

The Department of Home Affairs runs invitation rounds regularly, typically once or twice per month. The schedule is not fixed and can change.

  • Can I update my EOI after submitting?

Yes, you can update your EOI at any time. If your points increase (e.g. new English score), update immediately to improve your ranking.

  • What happens if I am not invited?

Your EOI remains active for 2 years. You can improve your score or add state nomination preferences. Consider the 190 or 491 pathway for additional points.
