New South Wales runs Australia’s largest state nomination program. Here is the current state of play for the NSW 190 nomination.

NSW nomination basics

• Fee: $300
• Processing time: 4-12 weeks
• Occupations: 157 unit groups on the NSW Skills List

Key requirements

NSW does not publish an explicit minimum points score beyond the 65-point pass mark. However, in practice:

• Popular occupations (software engineers, accountants): expect to need 85-95+ points
• Health occupations: 75-85 points may be sufficient
• NSW strongly favours applicants with higher English scores

How to apply

1. Obtain a positive skills assessment for your occupation
2. Submit an EOI through SkillSelect selecting NSW
3. NSW reviews EOIs and sends invitations based on points and occupation demand
4. If invited, submit your nomination application through the NSW portal within 14 days
5. Pay the $300 nomination fee and provide supporting documents
6. Wait for nomination outcome (4-12 weeks)

Who NSW is best for

NSW suits applicants who want to live in Sydney or regional NSW, have high points scores, and work in ICT, engineering, health, or construction. If your score is not competitive for NSW, consider South Australia or Tasmania which have lower thresholds.
